“Choosing the right web hosting company”
Those who are not in our industry or have enough exposure/knowledge on web hosting may not know the importance of choosing the right hosting company. Treat them as your “partner”, you will want a partner who has good reputation, stability and good customer services. Below are some of the things you should take into consideration:
Don’t be lazy and ignorant! Do your own research, find more information and reviews from whichever forums you can find on the Internet so that you know more about the company you are about to host your website and emails with them. You want to make sure none of the below turning into a problem.
This is one of the biggest and common problems we encountered in the past where the server keeps entering down-time mode. Affecting some of our earliest client (thank god they are still with us 100%). It is more common to occur in shared hosting when some web hosting companies decided to be a bit greedy by stuffing many websites into a single server. When someone decided to use more of the “space”, the rest of the website sharing the same space will be affected. That is when you start sending “tickets” to the respective hosting company. By the time they respond to your ticket and check on your website, it is highly likely your website is already up, online. They will just tell you “your website is accessible now”, this cycle goes on forever, for a tech person it is called “infinite loop”. So yes, stability is the most important factor to consider when choosing the right web hosting service provider for your company.
It is true, most web hosting companies will not guarantee 100% up-time or no-down time. Usually they will tell you 99.9%.
Obviously, speed is important especially today where the attention span of a person is shorter than before. Everyone especially the younger generation of Internet users is hungry for speed (also impatient sometimes). It’s not wrong either with such demand, after all our time in this life is not long so every second counts! Remember the scene in Captain Marvel (2019) where they insert the CD into the desktop to listen to the CD content, it takes decades to load. In today’s world, if your website takes that long to load, you most likely lose the potential sales in 3 or 5 seconds. These days, web content is heavier than before with more images (and high-quality images). So yes, speed is important factor to consider when choosing the right web hosting service provider for your company.
4.) Customer Service and support
As mentioned in No. 1 above, when you have down-time or if there are some issue relating to the server that occurred, you want to resolve the issue ASAP. You want the web hosting service provider to be reachable by giving you a channel or multiple channel to reach out to them and you want them to respond to your inquiry within a day and really investigate the issue and resolve it for you. You can always test their respond speed by sending inquiry about their package.
This is one of the most important factors to consider. However, most reputable web hosting company have some security tools in placed. Besides, if you are not in the industry, you will not know whether the security tools they used is the best in the industry. Of course, you can always do your own research to learn more about the security tools they used (they usually mention it on their website). The points above (1 – 4) will help you in reaching your conclusion.
Congratulations for reading this article, you have gained valuable knowledge. If you find it very useful, please share it with your friends and family who are looking to build a website.
We do not rank these companies and the sequence does not mean they are better than the rest in the list. As we have mentioned throughout the article, don’t be lazy and ignorant, do your own research and background checks! It is up to you to decide which is better for you.
